SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that restore volume and smooth out wrinkles. When injected into specific areas, the filler adds subtle volume, lifting and contouring the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and creases. The results are immediate, with a natural, youthful enhancement that can last from several months to over a year, depending on the product used and physiological factors.

FAQ’s

The major component of the dermis is collagen which gives the skin its firm elasticity and strength, offering fundamental support to the skin. As one grows old the ageing process causes the upper layer (the epidermis) to gradually become thin and provides less protection to the dermis layer. In addition, collagen production in the body slows down considerably as the existing collagen becomes ineffective. This then causes wrinkles, folds, depressions and other forms of skin abnormalities associated with old age. At this point, dermal fillers become necessary to reduce the consequences of the deteriorating epidermis and weakened collagen.
The fundamental working principle of dermal fillers is that they have a ‘plumping’ effect as they hold onto water molecules within the body. This simply implies that they will plump-up the area which has received the injection, levelling it with other parts of the skin and making it look plumped out and even and no longer sunken. Ultimately, different fillers may achieve this goal in slightly different ways, but the result is that the skin will look plump and firm, young and refreshed. Dermal filler procedures are quick, often taking just 30 minutes or less to complete, and many clients experience no pain at all and minimum side-effects.

Dermal fillers are used to treat the following facial areas:

  • Deep smile or laughter lines which run from the side of your nose to the corners of your mouth
  • Vertical lines on your top lip, known as smokers’ lines
  • Acne scars
  • Pockmarks caused by injury or disease, such as chickenpox marks
  • Uneven skin after surgery or skin grafting
  • Lips lacking volume or definition
  • Tear troughs
  • Drooping mouth corners
  • Marionette lines that run between the corners of your lips down towards the chin AND jaw
  • Sunken cheeks
  • Chin area that would benefit from reshaping
  • Bumps in the bridge of your nose or a crooked line of your nose
There are several different types of dermal fillers and their effects can be temporary or permanent depending on the type of filler.

The most common facial filler is hyaluronic acid injections. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within your body in the deep layers of your skin called the dermis that keeps your skin smooth, shapely, and hydrated. As you age, your body produces less hyaluronic acid.

Your Practitioner will discuss with you the best type and volume of filler needed for your particular areas of concern.
